Turbine RC Helicopter

“Turbine RC Helicopter” is a phrase in which not many of us summon the people of RC Helicopter in our collective mind. But the RC Helicopters of Bergen have a pleasant little surprise that mortals can allow us, with a bit of begging to our best halves, to own and fly a very nice turbine RC helicopter called the Intrepid 44 Magnum.

So what drives this cheap turbine RC helicopter

The gold jewel found within the 44 Magnum is Wren’s MW44i two-stage turbine engine.

This small turbine weighs only 1320 grams and produces almost 7 horsepower (6.8 to be exact) on the output shaft.

That’s only about 1 horsepower less than the 8.0 horsepower produced by the larger and heavier MW54 helicopter engine. The MW54 2-speed engine was actually a bit cheaper than the new 2-speed MW44 due to the stricter tolerances required in the smaller turbine, which makes it more difficult to build.

We are talking about a set of micrometers between the compressor blades and the chamber to finally achieve the compression efficiency. For this reason, the MW-44 K is not available as a kit: special tools and procedures are required for this type of mounting precision.

However, cost savings are important in the MW44, since they can be combined with smaller birds, such as the Nitros of the 90s or the electric ones of the 700. This saves money not only for the mechanics but also for the costs of operational costs and spare parts. The MW44 gearbox is actually configured to fit a standard OS 90 motor assembly. This is the main reason why the MW44 is one of the most sought-after heli-turbine turbines on the market in two stages.

Two-stage efficiency, high performance, legendary Wren quality, and technical support, all in a nice little 12-inch case, perfect for the currently available Nitros, Gasser and larger units.
